First, happy belated! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead. Second, I love this, it was exactly what I needed to read as I sit here wondering what writing project to work on next and applying for jobs. Thanks for sharing this reflection!

This is a great piece, thank you. I put the Sufjan song on just now, what a great reminder. Yes, indeed we are only here once as this incarnation, we make each day the best day we can. onwards.

Emily, just beautiful post. I think YOLO every day (tho this breezy shortcut for mindfulness is slightly bizarre). Do something that makes you afraid is perfectly tailored for me today.

Thank you so much, Marlena! it is slightly bizarre, isn't it? Though not that different from a practice of meditating on death or mindfulness of death -- just from a diffferent angle -- so glad this fit what you needed today.

When I hear the lyric "we're all gonna die" I hear Country Joe & the Fish ("Vietnam Song") (and I've been hearing it a lot lately, given the state of the world). AND, yes, it was a beautiful day in the neighborhood! 🩷💕

Yes, I’ve been hearing this song lately, too. Thanks for sharing this, Catherine. Impossible to see our individual selves as disconnected from the state of the world. ✨
