I've been hanging out on my porch more often. I often forget to go outside and if I do, I feel like I have to DO something all the time. When I sit even for a few minutes without looking at my phone or doing something, it slows time down. Helps me remember that I live in a body that needs to breathe and rest.

Sending so much love and energy your way as you embark on this big move (and deal with all the logistics, and sorting, and packing, and feeling, and shepherding your kids through their feelings too).

I always love your rec posts. And thank you for including my book’s pre-order! ❤️

SOIL is great!

For slowing down, I think I've finally stopped caring when my family gets to places we plan to go to (like the pool on Saturday... we plan to go all day. We got there at 3:45pm). It took a few weeks of summer for me to get here, but here I am. (Thanks for the shout-out.)

Emily, moving is one my least favorite things in the world and I can't imagine doing it with kids. Thank you so much for linking the article. I've been listening to audiobooks that are fiction this summer. I listen to a lot of audiobooks but almost always non-fiction. It takes a different kind of focus and I am really enjoying it.

That's interesting that you feel like listening to fiction takes a different kind of focus. I also have been on a big non-fiction kick for years now and want to read a few novels coming up. I'd love any recs of ones you're enjoying...

Yes, non-fiction often inspires tangents and cascades (if it's interesting stuff) and fiction requires a more focused attention, I wanted to really be in the story. I am currently listening to The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. It's narrated by Tom Hanks which is lovely. I listen in the evenings when I walk in the neighborhood.

I love Ann Patchett too and I just realized this summer that there are many books of hers I haven't read yet. Do you have a favorite?
