I just finished Run Towards the Danger thanks to your IG recommendation and I agree that it was so thought-provoking and inspiring.
The skating sounds so fun! I have no idea where the nearest roller rink is any more, but I used to LOVE roller skating. I think we should have an Anxious Poets Skate Club as an offshoot of Madwomen! Practice joy and embodiment!
I'm so glad you read and loved Run Towards the Danger! and yes to this Anxious Poets Skate Club and to practicing joy and embodiment!! so in. We went to Neville Rollerdrome on Neville Island. really fun. let's do it xo
Thank you so much, Shana! re: Run Towards the Danger, fascinating is right. I feel like it's one I'll need to re-read periodically—I still feel like it's one of the few books I've read in the last ten years that changed me and my life.
I feel exactly the same way. I've thought a lot about her chapter on being a child actor and my childhood as a competitive figure skater (my sister was a gymnast, so I've thought about that as well). Questions of agency, parenting, pressure, so many things! I've definitely re-read it at least once since I first read it.
This post is exactly right for me at this moment. There are so many ways to move towards what scares you. I have writing ahead today and meetings with strangers all weekend. Thank you for this beauty!

I was just talking to someone dear to me about this today! I’m so glad to have found your work.
I love this resonance! Thank you for reading and your kind words, Isabel.
I'm loving your newsletter, Emily. I was so happy to see you write about Sarah Polley's book. It was such a fascinating book.

So glad this resonated, Marlena!
Wonderfully helpful, Emily. I'm going to do just that—follow my fears into a poem. Thanks!
I'm so glad you found this helpful, Susan. I'd love to hear how it goes!
