It’s time for our next Ass in Chair Collective Meetup!
If your inbox looks as bad as mine, and you’re just reading about this for the first time, here’s the deal:
of The Long Pause and I are hosting a series of virtual meetups to make space for creative folks to connect and work on their practice and their projects. The idea is to create a coffee shop vibe on Zoom, and to collectively carve out an hour in the workday to put our energy into our creative pursuits on our own—together.
💥So far, our first 3 meetups have been super fun! We’ve had folks join from EVERY TIME ZONE in the US & Canada, and we’ve collectively put in 48 hours of creative work!💥

People have put their asses in chairs and 🪑edited novels and essays and poems 🪑 meditated 🪑 organized manuscripts 🪑worked on visual art & crafting projects 🪑wrote new poem drafts 🪑 planted seeds 🪑painted paintings and 🪑wrote their morning pages. People have also 🪑written to their representatives and completed other political actions, and we are here for ALL OF IT. 🪑
One Ass in Chair-er said, “I haven’t written in so long. Once my ass was in the chair, this hard thing got so much easier.”
Another said, “I really really like the quiet company while writing. Can’t wait for the next one.”
It’s awesome. Whatever creative thing you do will fit right in!
We’ve been trying out a bunch of times throughout March, but once we tally all the people who showed up, we’ll settle on a regular time to meet (🚨 FYI: your ass in a chair is your vote! 🚨) Paid subscribers will have access to all the meetups, and we’ll maintain at least one per month-ish for anyone. Sound cool?
🪑This week’s Ass in Chair meetup is Tues, March 25th from 3-4 pm EST🪑
The Ass in Chair Collective is about giving yourself a doorway to walk through, and a supportive community to validate your choice to steal time from your day and be creative. If that sounds like something you need, join us!
After the next one, Erinn and I will decide a regular weekly day/time to meet throughout the spring. If you want to share your preferred dates/times with us, click on the survey link below! We’re planning to revisit the day/time seasonally to try to include as many people as possible.
AND! 💥 If you’ve put your ass in the chair at one of our earlier meetups this month, please share about your experience in the comments below. Also: bring a friend next time! All are welcome. 💥
Be Where You Are is 100% reader-supported. You can support this work by becoming a paid subscriber. Or, just send it to a friend! 🩵
